Access Period: 30 days

Description

This course will cover the development and use of fiber-reinforced self-consolidating concrete (FRSCC) including concrete repair work. It will be shown through test results that steel fibers added to SCC can improve properties of fresh and hardened states of concrete, including strength and workability. Some discussion of carbon nanotubes will be presented to show other property improvements that can result in improved FRSCC concrete properties. Other discussion will assess dispersion of fibers to understand how steel fibers can positively impact flexural resistance of the finished concrete.

Table of Contents

Learning Objectives

1. Describe effect of fibers used with SCC concrete for concrete patch repair work projects.

2. Explain how changes in cementitious paste volume, changes in fiber dosage rates, changes in fine aggregate volume, and changes in high-range water reducer dosage can affect strength, flowability and workability of FRSCC.

3. Discuss fresh state and hardened state properties of SCC that are improved by adding a small amount of carbon nanotubes.

4. Describe how researchers are learning how the impact of fiber dispersion can improve flexural resistance of FRSCC concrete.
